Words for Castle Ward

‘You must go on. I can’t go on. I’ll go on.’ Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot

Check out the gorgeous location that has been the home of ‘Words for Castle Ward’ since it’s inception, as the inspiration behind, and backdrop to, ‘Ward’ a three-part sequence composed by Olive Broderick for the ‘Reimagine Arts Festival’ and performed at Castle Ward (4pm, Saturday May 29/05/2021). A lovely reminder for those who know this beautiful Strangford Lough-side National Trust Property through the years, and an enticing introduction for those new to it.

View the full programme of ‘bitesize’ and beautiful arts focused events filmed in stunning locations across the district via Visit Mourne’s Social Media (29-31 May). See details of all involved (including Words for Castle Ward associated writer as well as talented songwriter Brigid O’Neill) https://www.visitmournemountains.co.uk/blog/read/2021/05/reimagine-the-arts-with-innovative-online-arts-festival-b221

About the Group
The group came about as an initiative of the previous Castle Wards Arts and Craft collective. Meeting originally in Terenichol Cottage at the Farmyard for ad hoc new writing sessions, the group has developed to meeting monthly for feedback primarily but also for new writing. The group has been involved in Castle Ward Book Festival, and continues to give readings at different venues. The group partners with Down Arts Centre to present a platform for sharing written work
‘Poems on a Sunday Afternoon‘.

The group concentrates on feedback three sessions out of four so, for feedback sessions, bring a few copies of a piece you have written (or extract/chapter if your work is of the novel variety). Look forward to getting – and giving – constructive response to the work that is brought in. About once a quarter we will have a new writing/inspiration based workshop, just for a bit of variety.

The group is open to all writing genres and level of experience. Though members do attend on an ongoing basis, an ongoing commitment is not required. The normal venue is the Education Suite, National Trust Castle Ward and the group generally runs the second Saturday of the month – however this is subject to change.

Admission: There isn’t a charge to attend the group but just to say that National Trust admission charges apply for those who aren’t members: http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/castle-ward/.

The group is hosted by Olive Broderick (2014-2020).

Particiapats planning to attend are asked to email email wordsforcastleward@gmail.com beforehand.

For your diary – CWAC next group dates for 2021 are…. postponed ‘FOR THE FORESEEABLE‘ (see portable editing session by following link).
